The English Language Unity Act Covers Pandemics

During this year, America has continued to deal with COVID-19, the Delta variant, vaccinations, and mask mandates. It also is very important to remember that the English Language Unity Act, also known as S.678 in the United States Senate and H.R.997 in the United States House of Representatives, was constructed precisely to deal with national crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

The text of the English Language Unity Act states that, in terms of its practical effect, it shall not apply to “actions or documents that protect the public health and safety.”

This exception was specifically carved into the English Language Unity Act for situations like the COVID-19 pandemic, so that all Americans can understand and can enjoy the full benefits of public health and safety communications from the government during periods of national crisis, such as what we have experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic.
