New Florida Policy Requires Drivers License Exams in English
Florida has implemented a new policy requiring all drivers license knowledge and skills exams to be offered exclusively in English.
Prior to this policy change, exams were offered in multiple languages.
The policy, which officially went into effect on February 6, 2026, comes on the heels of a fatal accident involving a commercial truck driver this past August. The driver, an illegal alien from India who previously displayed a lack of English proficiency, made an illegal U-turn which led to the deaths of three people.
ProEnglish has long been a champion of official English policies for both commercial and personal drivers licenses.
English proficiency is critical for ensuring road safety and that all drivers are capable of reading traffic signs. We support this policy change and encourage other states to implement similar measures.
