Official English Bill in Congress Gains 40 Cosponsors

The English Language Unity Act of 2017 has hit a milestone in Congress! This past week, Rep. Bill Posey FL-8 signed on as a cosponsor to Rep. Steve King’s official English bill, H.R. 997.

H.R. 997 now has 40 cosponsors, and with the author of the bill, Rep. Steve King, the official English bill has 41 total sponsors in Congress.

This comes after ProEnglish recently announced that House Majority Whip, Rep. Steve Scalise also cosponsored H.R. 997! The House Majority Whip’s sponsorship of H.R. 997 serves as a powerful message to the majority party in Congress.

ProEnglish praised the initial introduction of House Resolution 997 (“The English Language Unity Act”) by U.S. Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa. It designates English as the nation’s official language of governmental operations and establishes a uniform language requirement for the citizen naturalization process.
