DOT Sec. Duffy Drives Home Why All Truck Drivers Must Be Proficient in English

Department of Transportation (DOT) Secretary Sean Duffy recently held a press conference where he delivered a powerful message about why truck drivers must be proficient in English.

“If you’re here illegally and you can’t speak the language and you’re not well trained, you don’t deserve to be in a big rig driving on American roads, endangering American citizens.”

Under Sec. Duffy, the DOT has made reining in the trucking industry a key priority. Through rule changes and more vigilant enforcement policies, they’ve been able to catch thousands of drivers who are not proficient in English and shut down the CDL schools that provided them with credentials.

As we’ve said before, the permanent solution is to pass Dalilah’s Law, a piece of federal legislation that would require all CDL holders to be proficient in English.
