Study Shows Cutting One Multilingual Initiative Would Save Taxpayers $890 Million
A recent study of President Trump’s proposed FY 2027 budget shows it would help save taxpayers $890 million by cutting just one multilingual program. The findings were part of an extensive analysis of the proposed FY 2027 budget by conservative think tank the Center for Renewing America.
The savings would come by eliminating the ironically named English Language Acquisition program, which in reality de-emphasizes English proficiency and doles out grants to organizations that promote bilingualism.
On top of promoting bilingualism, this program has also been used as a slush fund to subsidize a variety of left-wing causes. This includes creating materials that described illegal immigration as a “healthy contribution to democracy” and distributing multi-million dollar grants to woke initiatives at the University of Arkansas and the University of Massachusetts.
This study comes on the heels of a recent move by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to ensure that all grant funding announcements are in English.
As we’ve long pointed out, Official English policies will save taxpayers millions per year. These are the benefits of cutting just one multilingual initiative. Just imagine the savings if English was codified into law as our national language?
Now is the time to act. Contact your member of Congress and tell them to support passage of H.R. 1772, an act which would designate English as our official language in government operations.
