ProEnglish Chairman Phil Kent recently published a piece in James Magazine Online about our advocacy work on behalf of H.R. 1772, a critical piece of legislation that would codify English as the official language of government operations.

Momentum is growing and within the first week of June, three new House members signed on as cosponsors: Reps. Clay Fuller, Mike Collins, and Rick Allen.

They join their fellow Georgians Reps. Brian Jack, Rich McCormick, and Barry Loudermilk and as cosponsors of this bill. Notably, every single Democrat from the Georgia delegation has declined to cosponsor this bill.

According to our poll commissioned via Rasmussen, Official English is a popular policy with the American people, it would potentially save billions in government-mandated translation and interpretation costs, and would help foster a new sense of civic unity.

As our Executive Director Ellen Hamilton-Cotten stated in the article, “English is certainly a major tie that binds us together as American citizens— after all, proficiency in our common tongue is a requirement for citizenship”
