ProEnglish Op-Ed Stresses Importance of Official English in Midterm Elections
ProEnglish Executive Director Ellen Hamilton-Cotten recently published an op-ed in the Washington Times stressing the importance of Official English legislation in the lead up to the midterm elections.
As stated in the op-ed: “Candidates will spend the coming months talking about border security, assimilation, national identity, government efficiency and the future direction of the country. Official English belongs squarely in that debate. A nation cannot sustain unity without some shared civic foundation, and language is one of the most important parts of that foundation.”
Official English is a popular policy, and a 2025 Rasmussen poll commissioned by ProEnglish shows 73% of Americans support making English the official language of government operations.
Right now, voters have an opportunity to make their voices heard and put this issue front and center by asking their members of Congress to support codifying English as our official language.
