Official English Bill Introduced into Ohio House of Representatives
Ohio has taken an important step toward joining the growing number of states that have made English their official language.
Last week, Representative Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Township) introduced H.B. 825 in the Ohio House of Representatives. The bill would designate English as the official language of government operations in the state. If enacted, Ohio would become the 33rd state to codify Official English into law.
H.B. 825 reflects a principle that is both practical and unifying. Establishing English as the official language of government promotes clarity, efficiency, and accountability in public administration. It can also help reduce unnecessary taxpayer expense by limiting the cost of translating state documents and materials.
The bill follows President Trump’s executive order designating English as the official language of federal government operations.
ProEnglish will continue to monitor its progress and support its advancement through the legislative process.
