Congressmen Adrian Smith and Gregory Steube Join as Latest Co-Sponsors of H.R. 1772

Washington, D.C. –  ProEnglish is pleased to announce that Congressmen Adrian Smith (NE-03) and Gregory Steube (FL-17) have officially joined as co-sponsors of H.R. 1772, the Designation of English as the Official Language of the United States Act of 2025. The bill, introduced by Rep. Robert B. Aderholt (AL-04), would establish English as the official language of the federal government.

H.R. 1772 promotes national unity and efficient governance by requiring that all official functions of the U.S. government be conducted in English. It also encourages greater civic integration by reinforcing English as the common thread that binds a diverse nation together.

“We commend Representatives Smith and Steube for standing with the majority of Americans who believe English should be the official language of our government,” said Ellen Hamilton-Cotten, Executive Director of ProEnglish. “Their support helps strengthen a growing coalition in Congress that understands the unifying and practical value of a common language in government operations. This is about equal opportunity, transparency, and national cohesion.”

With additional lawmakers like Smith and Steube joining the effort, support for HR 1772 continues to grow in the U.S. House of Representatives.  The bill is drawing increased attention as members of Congress recognize the importance of establishing English as the official language to enhance governments clarity, improve accountability and promote national unity.
