Official English Supporter Senator Jeff Sessions, Confirmed To Be Attorney General

The Senate has confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL) to Attorney General of the United States. This is yet one more positive step for official English policies. Senator Sessions was of seven senators who cosponsored Sen. James Inhofe’s official English bill, S.678.  (the English Language Unity Act)

Senator Sessions has twice cosponsored S.678, a bill that would declare English as the official language of the United States, to establish a uniform English language rule for naturalization, and to avoid misconstructions of the English language texts of the laws of the United States, pursuant to Congress’ powers to provide for the general welfare of the United States and to establish a uniform rule of naturalization under article I, section 8, of the Constitution.

As Attorney General, Sessions will be head of the Department of Justice, a position key to upholding “English in the workplace” policies.

President Donald Trump’s victory in November, has given advocates of official English renewed optimism that English could finally be made our official language. Both President Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have been outspoken supporters of English language policies, and have tapped numerous cabinet officials, such as Sessions, who have demonstrated their support for making English our official language.
