Bilingual Ballots
The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was amended in 1975 to provide voting assistance
to certain "language minorities" that Congress felt had been excluded
from the electoral process because of "unequal educational opportunities."
Originally intended as a temporary measure, the scope of the law has ballooned
as a result of the unprecedented influx of non-English speaking immigrants
in recent years.
